Our grandson Leo, age 11, before the play, in costume for the opening scene (wearing a hat from Peru)
No matter how many times I see it performed, the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance never fails to awe me. It is an ancient ritual, danced in the hope of good hunting, and watching it you feel in your bones a connection to those long-ago people. Antlers used for the dance in the English village of Abbots Bromley have been carbon-dated as at least a thousand years old. Leo is the dancer in the rose-colored robe.
Our grandson Simon, age 8, in the red hat, helps to "turn the spit."
Leo is the silvery Dragon of Air. Behind him are the Dragon of Fire, the Dragon of Water, and the Dragon of Earth.
The cast of St. George and the Dragon receives a well-deserved ovation after the finale. Simon is in the center of the front row in red pants and hat.
