Ellen and Kira amidst a group of school children promoting traffic safety along the busy road.
One policeman was the father of one of the children. He and the other policeman would flag down motorists (all of them, cars and trucks alike), and the children would wave their posters and hand out printed flyers about safe driving. We think the flyers had ads and coupons on them as well, but were not of much use for us!
It was berry season, and we saw many women selling blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries along the side of the road -- a wonderful treat for hungry bikers.
People were also selling wild mushrooms. These mushrooms, sauted over the campfire with garlic, became part of our final dinner.
We stopped for lunch and swimming at Rubskoe Lake.
Rubskoe Lake.
Outside Suzdal, a few kilimetres from our camp site, was this church, in the midst of renovation. Men on the scaffolding were scraping and repainting the bell tower. It has recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
