Ron plans a different kind of travel experience for this year. He will be flying to Japan on 1 December 2015, returning home on 24 February 2016. Instead of traveling around the country (very expensive in Japan!), he has rented an apartment in Fukuoka for the entire time. Fukuoka is on the western side of the south island (see map below), where, although they do have winter, it is much milder than in the more northern part of Japan.
He has purchased two train passes for three weeks each, and will making trips to other parts of Japan from Fukuoka. Because the Japanese train system is so excellent, many of his trips will be day trips, or perhaps with one night away from the apartment.
Ellen has little interest in visiting/traveling in Japan (or at least, not enough interest to make the long trip), so will be staying home. Travel accounts will be posted to the Web page as usual, but since Ron is mainly interested in getting to know the country and learning something about the culture rather than visiting a lot of different places, travel reports may not be as frequent as on other trips (especially without Ellen there to write them!).
